is 3,500 a good price for a 1965 barracuda?
…165k orig.mi, needs front seat upholstery,a few small rust spots on body, paint needs to be redone but not too bad actually. Rubber weather stripping is dried out in some areas. There is paint damage under gas cap to bottom of car. Runs good, 2nd owner. One small (1″) square ding/dent in trunk lid, where the paint is chipped (one of the rust spots I mentioned). Chrome good, all original, a/c works, radio works, headliner excellent, floor upholstery exc. also. Just want to know if this is a fair deal or if I should hold out and pay a little more for a “better” one. Please help! Thanks much.
The price isn’t great, but it’s not bad either from your description. It sounds like a pretty good deal in any case if it’s driveable and in restorable condition. I don’t know what your goals are with it, if you intend to restore it or just fix it up to use as a weekend driver, but it’s not like they make them any more and there are a lot to choose from. Frankly as long as you like it and it fits in your long term plans, I would say go for it.
It sounds like it’s in pretty good shape and while the barracuda isn’t in the same league as a Road Runner, GTX, Cuda, etc. It’s still a nice car, but it likely will never be a daily driver. You also didn’t mention the engine, the Commando V8s are worth some bucks, but the 273s are pretty nice as well.
Good luck on your decision from a long time Mopar fan. My first car was a Belvedere GTX, purchased without an engine and tranny for $500.00 in 77. I put a lot of sweat and money into and the biggest regret of my car buying life was letting my parents sell it when I got transfered overseas, sigh…. Have fun!!
