Valentine’s Day conjures up images of romance – a dozen roses, dinner by candlelight, a heart-shaped box of chocolates. One can scarcely think of the holiday though, without thinking of Cupid with his bow and quiver of arrows, poised to strike romance into unsuspecting hearts. Angel lore says that if you’re stricken by this playful cherub’s arrow (often depicted with a tip in the form of a heart) you’ll instantly fall in love with the next person you see.
Cupid was a popular subject on the Victorian’s extravagantly decorated valentines, and is still much in demand on today’s current Hallmark cards. It seems that there are enduring themes surrounding this beloved holiday. There are playful cards from school days relying heavily on puns to get their message across, such as a dutch boy and girl with the caption, “Wooden shoe by my Valentine?” There are cards with a light touch, such as a cute animal couple shown in a variety of situations accompanied by a breezy verse. Then there are the all-out romantic cards with hearts and lacy flourishes, often showing the Angel of the Hour himself, Cupid.
He’s usually depicted as a cherubic figure with smallish wings and curly golden hair. Perhaps he’s dressed in a wisp of sashing, or his leg may be strategically positioned to hide his sex. There’s no mistaking his identity; however, because he always has his bow and arrows with him! If he doesn’t, then the card is illustrated with a cherub, but not Cupid.
Cupid has his origins in Roman mythology as the god of love and sex. Though there are varying accounts of who his parents were, it’s generally believed that his mother was Venus. He’s usually portrayed as a mischievous sprite with a sense of humor when it comes to making romantic matches. Should you find yourself in an unlikely romance this Valentine’s Day – or are sitting on the sidelines waiting for love to strike – think of Cupid!

Physics Question Help?
Assume an unlimited stretch of salt flat. The Golden Arrow is driven at full speed for 5 mins (372.46 km/h). How long would it take the green monster (927 km/h) to cover the same distance?
This is a question given to my first ever physics class. It’s just a little complicated for my first day, so could someone please just show me the steps to answer the question. Thanks in advance.
It sounds complicated but your task is to sort out the information from the verbiage.
What is the question talking about?
speed, time, distance
do you know any equations involving speed, time, distance ?
YES speed = distance / time
372.46 = distance / (5 minutes)
BUT the speed is km/h and time is minutes, they must be the same.
Choose minutes.
GA travels 372.46 km in one hour so it travels 372.46 / 60 km in 1 minute. Put this into your speed equation – it now involves km and minutes on both sides.
372.46/60 = distance / 5
distance = 5 * 372.46 /60 = 31.04 km
Now look at the second part – you know new speed and you now have a distance
927/60 = 31.04 / time
time = 31.04 * 60 / 927 [multiply both sides by time, then by 60 and divide by 927 to get time by itself.]
time = ….. minutes
I’ve done this in a long way to illustrate the methodolgy.
You could have simply said 5 minutes is 1/12 of an hor so the distance is 1/12 of 372.46.
If you want to impress your teacher ask why it gives speeds to 5 significant figures but times to only 1 – poor physics! for consistency the time should have been 5.0000 minutes.
